The Greater Des Moines Partnership Brings a World of Color to Downtown Des Moines (DSM) During Chalk the Park
GREATER DES MOINES, IA — Downtown Des Moines (DSM) will be “chalk” full of handmade artwork during the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s Chalk the Park event on Saturday, July 17 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Participants will create their masterpieces on the sidewalks of Western Gateway Park near the Central Library (located between 10th and 12th Streets).
This free pop-up event is open to people of all ages and experience levels. Sidewalk areas will be sectioned off for public chalking and participants can also take part in helping chalk a community piece. This piece will be a nod toward the ongoing Glad You're Here | Love Downtown DSM series created to encourage residents to explore Downtown DSM as more people begin to participate in Downtown activities this summer. Other events in this series include Downtown DSM Tweet Week and Out to Lunch, with more surprise and delight activations to be shared publicly soon.
“Downtown DSM is full of art and creative people who enhance its vibrancy,” said Tiffany Tauscheck, Chief Operations Officer at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “We hope that by curating a blend of large and small activations, like Chalk the Park, we can build an important sense of place by creating unique experiences found in Downtown DSM.”
Participants can bring their own chalk or choose from the assortment of free chalk provided on site to help bring their designs to life. Stop by anytime during the event to chalk a section of the community piece, create your own masterpiece and leave your mark on #downtownDSM. Chalk artists will also get a chance to beat the summer heat and snack on free, refreshing treats and beverages while listening to music and partaking in fun entertainment. The Des Moines Public Library will be open for restrooms and snack breaks.
