Legacy Project: Career Ready Collective Celebrates Over 90 Program Participants

July 26, 2024

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (July 26, 2024) — The Greater Des Moines Partnership celebrated the achievements of 94 high school student participants in the inaugural Legacy Project: Career Ready Collective with a special luncheon on Friday, July 26.

The celebration luncheon featured keynote speaker Dan Houston, Chairman, President and CEO of Principal® and all program participants were awarded with a certificate of completion.

The Career Ready Collective is a community-driven, career development program to prepare youth for the future of work and is funded by the Principal Charity Classic’s Legacy Project with support from Sammons Financial. The primary objective of the Career Ready Collective is to introduce youth to a variety of professional skills that will increase their knowledge and confidence. Participants were inspired by nationally recognized keynote speakers, developed their professional skills and networked with high school interns and business professionals from across the region. The curriculum and program were developed by The Partnership with support from The Robert D. and Billie Ray Center at Drake University.

In 2024 the Principal Charity Classic raised $88,580 to fund the Career Ready Collective.

“Congratulations to the participants who have completed the Legacy Project: Career Ready Collective," said Jo Christine Miles, Director, Principal® Foundation and Principal Community Relations. "We are excited to see how they will apply the skills and knowledge they have learned during the six-week program to shape their professional journeys."

"We are thrilled to celebrate the inaugural cohort of the Legacy Project: Career Ready Collective," said Lexi Shafer, Director of Workforce at The Partnership. "This program has equipped the participants with valuable tools to shape their futures and more knowledge of opportunities to consider careers in Greater Des Moines after graduation."
