Advancing Women in Leadership Event to Feature Space Explorer

October 6, 2021

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Oct. 6, 2021) – The Greater Des Moines Partnership will host an event focused around Advancing Women in Leadership on Tuesday, Nov. 2 from Noon – 1 p.m.

The presentation will be led by Dr. Sian Proctor, a geoscientist, explorer, space artist, and science communication specialist. Dr. Proctor will discuss the need for advancing women in leadership, how to advocate for more diversity from within — especially in fields related to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) — and how to effectively build a talent pipeline that will bring a high level of success to a business. Proctor recently returned from the first all-civilian space flight on the SpaceX rocket ship. She was the fourth African-American woman ever to fly to space.

“We are grateful to be joined by a trailblazing leader who will have a unique perspective on how we can collectively work to lift up talented women in our workplaces,” said Meg Schneider, Senior Vice President of Business Resources and Community Development at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “We encourage business leaders of all backgrounds to attend and gain insights on how they can make a difference.”

The event will take place virtually. Register for the event on The Partnership’s website.
