New DART On Demand Curb-to-Curb Service Expanding

May 16, 2022

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) is expanding its newest service to bring even more mobility options to Greater Des Moines (DSM).

During a year-long transit optimization study last year, DART planned and launched a new service in Ankeny called DART On Demand, a curb-to-curb service within a designated zone. Since the new service was introduced, ridership has grown from 200 rides per month to more than 900 rides per month, with ridership continuing to increase each week.

Given the success of the first DART On Demand zone, plans are underway to bring DART On Demand to West Des Moines in the coming months. DART is sharing these plans and seeking feedback during the month of May. Learn more at ridedart.com/westdesmoines.

DART On Demand allows riders to book trips from their location to any destination within the selected zone. Trips can be booked in real-time (on-demand) or scheduled in advance and may be shared with other riders.

“I just recently got rid of my car so this service started at just the right time for me,” says rider Arlene M. “The drivers are absolutely super. This (DART) On Demand is a lifesaver for me.”

How DART On Demand Works

  • Trips take place within a designated zone and can be booked in real-time (on-demand) or scheduled in advance and may be shared with other riders. DART On Demand uses smart technology to optimize trips.
  • Riders can book a DART On Demand ride through the web portal or download the app (available in the App store or Google Play) or by calling DART customer service at 515-283-8100.
  • DART On Demand operates in Ankeny Monday - Friday, from 6 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. The last available time to book a trip is 6:15 p.m. Rides are $1 for a limited time. Riders who qualify for half fare and children ages 6-10 can ride for $0.50.
