DSM Festivities

Altoona Fourth of July Parade

Altoona will host a parade down 8th Street at 10 a.m., followed by an ice cream social at Haines Park. LEARN MORE>

Fireworks will also take place at Prairie Meadows in Altoona on Sunday, July 3.

Grimes “Home Base Iowa” July 4th Fireworks Show

Celebrate the 4th with fireworks at 10 p.m. Monday, July 4 at Grimes South Sports Complex in Grimes. This event is free to attend. LEARN MORE>

Newton 4th of July Celebration

The celebration in Newton will include a Kids Zone with inflatables, sand volleyball tournament, music, contests and fireworks at Agnes Patterson Memorial Park on Monday, July 4. LEARN MORE>

Celebrate Norwalk 4th of July Weekend Fireworks

The Dick Danger Band will be part of the July 4 festivities that include a parade at 10 a.m., party in the city park from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. and fireworks at dusk at Mcaninch Park. LEARN MORE>

Urbandale 4th of July

On the fourth, Urbandale will hold a parade at 10 a.m. and fireworks display at 10 p.m. on the west side of Walker Johnston Park on Monday, July 4. LEARN MORE>

Waukee 4th of July

Waukee offers a parade at 10:30 a.m., free ice cream social, inflatables, a bags tournament, live music, skydivers and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. on Monday, July 4. LEARN MORE>

West Des Moines Fireworks Display

The West Des Moines fireworks display is free, taking place at around 9:30 p.m. at the City of West Des Moines campus. Parking lots on the city/school campus open at 7:30 p.m. A parade will also be held on Sunday, July 3 at 6:30 p.m. The parade begins at Valley West Drive and Ashworth Road. LEARN MORE>

In the leadup to the 4th, you can also catch the annual Yankee Doodle Pops on the West Terrace at the Iowa State Capitol on Friday, July 1 at 8:30 p.m. and the historic Independence Day & Baseball Game event at Living History Farms from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 2. This Walnut Hill celebration includes old-fashioned games, ice cream making demonstrations and more.

Swimming + Shopping on the 4th

Spend a day staying cool while swimming at Adventure Bay. When you rent a cabana on the 4th, you receive priority access to the waterpark, access to the cabana menu, a ceiling fan and more. Or, you might prefer stopping by a splash park in Des Moines or one of the surrounding cities or letting the kids enjoy one of the many aquatic centers in the region. From Cascade Falls in Ankeny to Indianola Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Indianola to the many aquatic centers in Des Moines, the entire family can spend the day together making memories when they visit a DSM pool.
