Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend Will Be One of the Most Talked About Events of the Summer

What could be better on a Saturday in July than seeing legendary music artists perform before — and after — you watch superstar drivers compete in pulse-pounding INDYCAR racing?

How about coming back on Sunday to do it all over again?

Four award-winning music acts and two big NTT INDYCAR Series races will take place the weekend of July 22-24 at Iowa Speedway in Newton during the Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend.

“We want this event to be the premier event of the summer by providing race-goers with an unforgettable experience,” said Randy Edeker, Hy-Vee’s Chairman and CEO.

Musical Guests

Three-time Grammy award-winning country music superstar Tim McGraw will perform prior to the Hy-VeeDeals.com 250, presented by DoorDash on Saturday, July 23. Billboard record-holding country music duo Florida Georgia Line will take the stage after the race.

On Sunday, July 24, three-time Grammy winner Gwen Stefani will entertain race fans prior to the Hy-Vee Salute to Farmers 300, presented by Google. Country music star Blake Shelton will close out the weekend with a post-race performance.

All concerts are included with the purchase of race tickets. Fans can also purchase pit passes for the post-race Florida Georgia Line and Blake Shelton shows.

“Iowa will be the place to be this summer with these live music acts, coupled with nationally televised INDYCAR races and a festival-like atmosphere that has something for everyone to enjoy,” Edeker said.

More Race Weekend Activities

And there’s more! Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend is designed for more than race fans. Ticketholders will enjoy music, food and family activities through the weekend to engage fans of all ages. From a Kids Zone, which includes a Hy-Vee KidsFit activities area, special appearances by local celebrities, the Red Bull gaming truck and other fun activations, to nearly 20 antique tractors on display courtesy of the Central Iowa Tractor Club, there’s truly something for everyone.

There will also be a weekend-long Food Truck Challenge with 50 food truck vendors competing to be the fan favorite at the track. Race fans will get a chance to vote for their favorite street cuisine, with the top three vendors winning cash prizes.

Hy-Vee became involved with INDYCAR as primary sponsor for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s No. 15 car in 2020. This season, Hy-Vee is the primary sponsor of RLL’s No. 45 Hy-Vee Honda, driven by Jack Harvey, and associate sponsor of teammate Graham Rahal’s No. 15 car and the No. 30 car, piloted by Christian Lundgaard.

Hy-Vee INDYCAR Race Weekend was designed for fans and will breathe new life into the speedway. NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace was the architect for the track which opened in 2006. Iowa Speedway has since hosted 15 INDYCAR events, including a July doubleheader during the pandemic-altered 2020 season, its last as a series host.

Some of INDYCAR’s top drivers have taken the checkered flag in Newton. Among them: Two-time INDYCAR series champion Josef Newgarden, former INDYCAR champ Ryan Hunter-Reay (who has three Iowa Speedway wins), Dario Franchitti (Newton winner in 2007 and 2009) and James Hinchcliffe (2013 and 2018).
