DSM Residents Encouraged to Support Local During Small Business Week

September 13, 2021

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Sept. 13, 2021) – As National Small Business week runs from Sept. 13 – 17, the Greater Des Moines Partnership encourages Greater Des Moines (DSM) residents to support local.

Residents are encouraged to take the #DSMlocal Challenge. To take the challenge, participants can post a photo to social media showing how they support local and tag three friends to do the same using the hashtag #DSMlocal. Find more information on The Partnership’s website. The #DSMlocal Challenge encourages residents to support local restaurants, businesses and attractions in addition to businesses providing business-to-business services such as professional development, consulting, printing, marketing, accounting, IT solutions and more.

Small businesses are encouraged to tag themselves on social media and share why they became a small business owner.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our community and help drive economic growth,” said Meg Schneider, Senior Vice President of Business Resources and Community Development at The Partnership. “We encourage residents to support local year-round and hope this week will jumpstart the mindset of supporting local businesses as the holiday season approaches and organizations prepare their budgets for next year.”

Participants looking for ideas on where to find local businesses can explore The Partnership’s #DSMlocal Buying Guides, which feature insights on businesses broken up by category including patio dining, weddings, restaurants, gardening and much more.

Also on The Partnership’s website, small businesses can find a #DSMlocal toolkit with downloadable graphics to share on social media or hand out in stores, and Zoom backgrounds to show support for looking local.
