Medical Students Celebrate During Des Moines University’s Match Day

After much dedication and commitment, Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences (DMU) students from the College of Osteopathic Medicine and College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery celebrated Match Day, finding out their residency specialty placements after years of education and training. This year’s COM class achieved a 99% match rate and CPMS achieved a 100% match rate in the 2026 National Resident Matching Program. Thirty students matched to residency programs in Iowa.

Kara Werth, DO’26, said of DMU’s second in-person Match Day, “It’s been really cool to even be a part of it.”

Following their graduate-level education, students are matched in residency specialty programs like Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Anesthesiology and more. Of the students matching in Iowa, the top residency specialty placements were: Internal Medicine (9), Family Medicine (8), Emergency Medicine (6), Psychiatry (2), Pediatrics (2), Podiatry (2) and Anesthesiology (1).

“As a med student, I did a lot of my rotations in Des Moines and sometimes the rural areas in Iowa. Being able to help out in that way, it’s just a privilege,” says Werth.
