Partnership to Host Multicultural Reception on Aug. 3

July 7, 2022

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (July 7, 2022) – The Greater Des Moines Partnership will host a Multicultural Reception on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the Iowa Bankers Association at 8901 Northpark Drive in Johnston. The event is sponsored by the Iowa Bankers Association and the Central Iowa Chapter of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). Multicultural Receptions provide opportunities for those in the Greater Des Moines (DSM) community to develop new relationships with others who are passionate about building an inclusive community for the region.

The event will begin with a roundtable discussion from 4 – 5 p.m. where attendees will have the opportunity to discuss a variety of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) topics of importance to their organization and the community. The Reception will begin at 5 p.m. with brief remarks around 5:30, and continue until 6:30.

“We are excited to partner with Central Iowa SHRM and the Iowa Bankers Association for this event which will open up opportunities for important discussions on advancing DEI in our community,” said Dr. Marvin DeJear, Senior Vice President of Talent Development at The Partnership. “We invite leaders and people of all backgrounds to join us to celebrate DEI and learn more about how our community can collectively move forward on DEI initiatives.”

The Iowa Bankers Association is dedicated to serving Iowa banks. As the nation’s largest state banking association, it is the principal advocate for the industry in Iowa and offers a diverse range of services to help banks better meet the needs of their communities.

“We have the privilege of serving banks with a presence in nearly every Iowa community. Our members know they do better when they create an environment where all Iowans feel welcome” said John Sorensen, President and CEO with the Iowa Bankers Association. “We applaud The Partnership for helping to create this valuable relationship-building opportunity.”

Central Iowa SHRM’s purpose is to elevate the Human Resources (HR) profession by supporting and developing the HR professional, equipping them to create better workplaces for a better world. As the go-to resource for HR in Central Iowa, SHRM achieves this purpose by providing education through events, study groups, trainings, materials, networking and more.

“DEI continues to be an important conversation for everyone in the human resources field and leaders at all levels of organizations with a goal of creating healthy workplaces and communities,” said Katie Fischer, President with Central Iowa SHRM. “We are grateful to be able to create an environment to bring people together around this topic.”
