Economic Development Momentum: MidAmerican Energy Company, Source Allies, Inc., John Deere

Major economic development projects have moved forward in Greater Des Moines (DSM). Read about some of the latest developments.

MidAmerican Energy Company

MidAmerican Energy Company announced it will be the first investor-owned electric utility in the country to generate renewable energy equal to 100 percent of its customers’ usage on an annual basis. MidAmerican Energy proposed an additional investment of $922 million with the announcement of its Wind XII project. The project, if approved by the Iowa Utilities Board, is expected to be completed in late 2020. Over the past three years, MidAmerican Energy has moved forward with its previously announced Wind XI and repowering projects, that when combined with Wind XII, will provide customers with 100 percent renewable energy on an annual basis.

Source Allies, Inc.

Source Allies, Inc. is planning a $3.8 million expansion of its current workspace in Urbandale to allow for additional growth. Source Allies is an information technology consultancy creating software products with customers in the energy, precision agriculture, media, healthcare and insurance markets. The company was awarded direct financial assistance as well as tax benefits from the Iowa Economic Development Authority Board through its High Quality Jobs program. The project is expected to create 36 jobs.

John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group

John Deere held a groundbreaking for its new 134,000-square-foot building in Urbandale. This $34 million project adds to DSM’s reputation as the Cultivation Corridor, a hub for agbioscience activity.
