World Food & Music Festival Returns September 19 - 21

The 10th Annual World Food & Music Festival will return to Downtown Des Moines Sept. 19 - 21, 2014 in a new location, the Walnut Street Bridge. Hours are: Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. The World Food & Music Festival is central Iowa’s premier celebration of culinary culture featuring diverse food vendors, cooking demonstrations, live music, entertainment and international beer and wine. Admission is free.

50 International Food Vendors
World Food & Music Festival will feature 50 international food vendors including 9 new vendors showcasing food from Trinidad, Mesopotamia, Arabia, South America, Laos, Netherlands, France, Ethiopia, The Filipines, Korea, Italy, Mexico, India, Russia, Thailand, Ukraine, Greece, Israel, Morocco, Ecuador, Bosnia, El Salvador and of course America. New flavors will include Ghanaian, Cambodian and Caribbean cuisine. Festival attendees are invited to taste samples for $1 at every food vendor or go for the full-plate options for $5 or less. Music, Entertainment and Programming
The Festival will feature World, Latin and local music including headliners The Nadas, Decoy and Parranderos Latin Combo; in addition to cultural dancers on the Corona Stage during the three-day event. The Wells Fargo Cultural Discovery Pavilion will return for the second year, giving visitors the opportunity to learn about other cultures, countries, and traditions through hands-on demonstrations and interactive children’s activities.

Cooking Demonstrations
Live cooking demonstrations will be taking place at the Meredith Culinary Discovery Pavilion throughout the three-day festival. Stop by the Pavilion to learn new techniques and sample ethnic creations. The Festival is proud to welcome returning Chef Charles D'Ablaing from The Raphael Hotel in Kansas City and new additions including Chef Sheree Clark of ‘Fork in the Road’, Chef Lynn Pritchard of Table 128 Bistro & Bar, Chef Courtney Williams of Red Bistro and Chef Ian Robertson of 801 Chophouse along with 19 more local chefs. International Beer/Wine returns this year - Imported Vodka and Whisky
The Festival will feature a variety of imported beer, craft beer and wine along with domestic products, Svedka Vodka and Black Velvet Whisky drinks to accommodate a variety of palettes.

New this year – Chocolate Adventure and Science of Food by Eurofins
A new offering from Beaverdale Confections, Chocolate Adventure, gives kids an opportunity to learn about and taste different kinds of chocolate as they make their own chocolate lollipop. Science of Food by Eurofins will feature 10-minute science demonstrations presented every hour, featuring things like “The Scoville Heat Challenge” where festival attendees can guess the scoville heat level of spices in salsa during an interactive taste testing challenge, and more!
