Workforce Numbers In Metro Area Increase

June 6, 2014

Greater Des Moines (DSM) again is receiving positive attention for its attractive business climate. Out of 379 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) Des Moines/West Des Moines ranked 29 in the Leading Locations Study. Area Development, a site and facility planning magazine, analyzed economic and workforce data to identify the cities with the most desirable economic development opportunities.  In addition to the study, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the metro saw 11,300 jobs added over the past year, which resulted in a 3.4 percent positive change, the most in the state.

According to the article, “The top MSAs in the list demonstrate that a variety of strong individual drivers, or a combination of many factors, can move a city’s attractiveness as a business site into the foreground. Chief among those drivers for 2014 are the renaissance in domestic manufacturing… and the spread of America’s high-technology dominance to sparkling new urban epicenters even as the birthplaces of this advantage retain their sheen.”

In other economic development news, Site Selection Magazine, an award-winning trade publication for corporate real estate directors and economic development organizations, annually lists the top ten economic development groups in the nation, plus another ten organizations receiving honorable mentions.  The ranking, included in their May issue, is based on economic development projects (number of jobs created/retained, capital investment, etc). The Greater Des Moines Partnership received an honorable mention, equivalent to being named one of the top twenty economic development organizations in the country.  You can read more here: siteselection.com/digitalEdition
