The Interrobang Film Festival Promises a High Quality Film Experience

June 4, 2015

Representing motion pictures as part of the Des Moines Arts Festival® since 2007, the Interrobang Film Festival is part juried competition, part public screening, part workshop. Its audience — whether cinema enthusiast or curious newcomer — is able to experience curated screenings of films from all over the world. More than 50 films will be screened throughout the three days of the Festival June 26-28 at Des Moines Central Library’s South Wing.

"This year’s Interrobang truly offers something for everyone,” said Kristian Day, Interrobang Film Festival Producer. “The films cross all genres, and we’ll have great Q&A sessions with some of the filmmakers. Plus, this year we have fun décor from the Varsity Theater to help set the mood for screenings, and guests can purchase popcorn, soda, beer and wine during the film screenings. We’ve created a true theater experience for our guests.”

The Interrobang Film Festival will also participate in Art Week Des Moines, which aims to bring people together to participate in the local arts scene and to support artists of all genres. “We are pleased to participate in the first-ever Art Week Des Moines to generate excitement not only for filmmakers, but for artists of all mediums,” Kristian said.

Highlights of the Interrobang Film Festival will include: a 48 Hour Film Project screening and mixer at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 26 at the Des Moines Central Library. The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which filmmakers team up to make a movie. All writing, shooting, editing and scoring must be completed in just 48 hours.

Other events to note include a History of Iowa Films lecture and book signing Saturday at 3 p.m.; the Midwest filmmaker discussion panel on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.; and a screening of WildLike, directed by Frank Green and starring “Mad Men” alumnus Bruce Greenwood. Don’t miss Jasper County Freedom Flight directed by Iowa native Mike Kieler, a film about the third and final group of veterans who flew to Washington D.C. to visit the memorials erected in their honor.
