StemBox Founder Kina McAllister to Speak at Square One DSM Startup Stories
GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Aug. 21, 2017) — Kina McAllister, CEO and Founder of StemBox, will be the guest speaker at the September Square One DSM Startup Stories event. Startup Stories is a monthly networking event geared toward entrepreneurs, investors and those interested in entrepreneurship that features an interview-style presentation with Square One DSM Executive Director Mike Colwell. The September event is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 20 at the Greater Des Moines Partnership, 700 Locust St.
StemBox puts together fun and exciting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) experiment kits for children and sends them to customers across the country. The company was founded by McAllister, a scientist herself, after she started to see the need for more women in STEM careers. She saw an opportunity to help girls better develop an understanding and love of science at a younger age.
McAllister recently moved to Greater Des Moines (DSM) from Seattle. She will talk about her decision to grow StemBox in DSM, as well her journey and lessons learned as an entrepreneur. Cowell will begin the presentation by interviewing McAllister, and then take questions from the audience.
The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration includes a $15 admission fee for lunch; the event is free for attendees who choose not to sign up for a lunch.
