Greater Des Moines Partnership Set To Advance Regional Priorities In Washington, D.C.
Nearly 200 of Greater Des Moines’ (DSM's) business and community leaders will travel to the nation’s capital May 10-12 to present a federal agenda and promote regional priorities and economic development plans during the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s 36th annual trip to Washington, D.C. While in Washington, participants will have the opportunity to advocate for key issues facing the region.
Throughout the three-day trip, local leaders will meet with members of Iowa’s Congressional delegation, the Administration, and their staffs. The Partnership will host a Congressional Leadership luncheon featuring United States Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) and Congressman Erik Paulsen (R-MN); as well as a breakfast meeting featuring Chuck Todd, Political Director of NBC News and moderator of Meet the Press. The Partnership will also host Congressional staff policy meetings addressing eight priorities for Central Iowa including: Iowa Biotechnology Center, Des Moines International Airport Terminal, Bus Rapid Transit, Long Term Transportation Funding, Trade, Immigration, Quality of Life and Graduate Medical Education. The DM/DC 2015 public policy agenda and a trip itinerary may be found by visiting DSMpartnership.com/dmdc.
“The DC Trip allows us to continue to build strong relationships with federal policymakers and bring a real-world perspective from Central Iowa as a unified community,” said the Partnership’s 2015 Chair Gerry Neugent of Knapp Properties, Inc. “Not only is this an opportunity to connect with Congress and the Administration on issues and projects impacting our region, it is an unparalleled chance for participants to connect with each other in ways nearly impossible to duplicate at home.”
