Greater Des Moines Partnership Set to Advance Regional Priorities in D.C.
More than 195 of Greater Des Moines’ (DSM’s) business and community leaders will travel to the nation’s capital next week to present a federal agenda and promote regional priorities and economic development plans during the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s 35th annual trip to Washington, D.C. While in Washington, participants will have the opportunity to advocate for key issues facing the region.
Throughout the three-day trip, local leaders will meet with members of Iowa’s Congressional delegation, the Administration, and their staffs. The Partnership will host Congressional Leadership Luncheons featuring United States Senators Patty Murray (D-WA), and Tim Scott (R-SC). Congressional Staff policy meetings will address Agriculture/Trade, Education, Health Care, and Transportation. Workshops will focus on Agriculture/Farm Bill, Housing, and Immigration. A dinner gathering of the Partnership’s Regional Affiliate Chambers of Commerce will take place at Sea Catch restaurant in Georgetown, located in the Canal Building, originally built in 1842. The DM/DC 2014 public policy agenda and a full trip itinerary may be found by visiting DSMpartnership.com/dmdc.
“As we embark on our annual trip to our nation’s capital, let us reflect on what a tremendous privilege it is to be able to voice our ideas and advocate for Central Iowa,” said the Partnership’s 2014 Chair, Paul Schickler of DuPont Pioneer. “Not only is this an opportunity to connect with Congress and the Administration on issues and projects impacting our region, it is a chance to form and strengthen relationships with our community and civic leaders.”
Prairie Meadows and Innovate Iowa are the presenting sponsors for DM/DC 2014. Other sponsors include Davis Brown Law Firm, Delta Dental of Iowa, Des Moines Area Community College, Des Moines Area MPO, Des Moines Area Regional Transit, Diligent Development, DuPont Pioneer, Google, the Human Capital, JE Dunn Construction, Live Healthy America, Midwest Housing Equity Group, Nyemaster Goode, P.C., The Principal Financial Group, and The Weitz Company.
