Greater Des Moines Partnership Hires Joseph Jones To Lead Regional Public Policy Program

The Greater Des Moines Partnership today announced Joseph Jones will join the Partnership staff as Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Public Policy. This senior leadership position is responsible for the identification and management of governmental and public policy issues of significance to the Partnership. Jones will support the organization's work by elevating and leveraging the alliance between business and government at all levels for the betterment of Greater Des Moines (DSM). He will begin his duties in mid-December.

"We are excited to have Joseph return to Central Iowa to join the Partnership's leadership team and lead our government relations and public policy work," said Jay Byers, Partnership CEO. "Joseph's background, skills, and connections will further strengthen the Partnership's non-partisan federal, state, and regional advocacy efforts."

Jones joins the Partnership after serving as a Legislative Assistant for the Office of U.S. Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa. In that role, Jones has been the primary legislative liaison to the Partnership and other Chambers of Commerce visiting Washington, D.C. He previously worked as the Director of Government Affairs for the Iowa Finance Authority and the Senior Communications Specialist for the Office of the Governor and Lt. Governor under the Tom Vilsack administration. Jones also worked for Des Moines Area Community College as an adjunct professor of political science.

"With Joseph on board, we look forward to building on these successes and continuing to move forward a pro economic growth policy agenda."

Jones graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in economics. He received his Masters of Public Administration with an emphasis in public policy from Drake University. Jones is a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College Capitol Hill Seminar and the United States Military Academy Preparatory School at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey.

He was honored as a member of Des Moines Business Record's "Forty Under 40" Class of 2009 and is a graduate of the Iowa Association of Business and Industry's Leadership Iowa program (2006-07).
