November 11, 2014

Shop local for your Thanksgiving feast and holiday gifts at the Downtown Winter Farmers’ Market on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22 from 9 a.m.  - 1 p.m. For the second year, the Winter Farmers’ Market will be located at Capital Square at 400 Locust in addition to Kaleidoscope Mall at 555 Walnut Street in Downtown Des Moines (DSM); both buildings are connected via skywalk.  The Winter Market will also be offered at the same location on Dec. 12 and 13, 2014.

“We have expanded our Friday hours for the Winter Market this year,” says Kelly Foss, Director of the Downtown Farmers’ Market. “The Winter Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, giving patrons more time to shop and opportunity to enjoy the festive location and interact with local growers, bakers and artists while preparing for holiday meals and unique gift giving.”

The Downtown Farmers’ Market — Winter Market is a perfect place to buy your entire Thanksgiving meal. The Market features more than 130 vendors selling a variety of locally raised products including fresh turkeys, eggs, beef, pork, duck, holiday hams; and of course, produce — there will be a variety of late season and high tunnel produce available including sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, winter squash, salad greens, apples and more.

Shoppers can also expect to find an abundance of handmade products including locally produced honey, jams, salsa, wine, cheese, noodles, baked breads, pies and cinnamon rolls. Beautiful winter flowers such as poinsettias, fresh cut Christmas trees, handmade holiday wreaths, home decorations and unique gifts will also be available. The Market will feature a wide variety of holiday activities for the entire family, including festive holiday entertainment and kids’ activities.

The Winter Market will also be offered on Dec. 12 and 13. Stock up on your market favorites now and in December — the Downtown Farmers’ Market won’t be back until next May!
