Environmental Impact Award Winners Announced

In honor of Earth Day, The Center on Sustainable Communities, Des Moines Water Works, Greater Des Moines Partnership, Metro Waste Authority and MidAmerican Energy are recognizing the accomplishments of this year’s Environmental Impact Awards winners.

The Environmental Impact Awards were established to recognize organizations that exemplify environmentally sustainable practices. The 2014 award winners are:

Business (presented by Greater Des Moines Partnership)

  • Small Business: Blank Park Zoo
  • Large Business: Meredith Corporation
  • Civic (presented by Metro Waste Authority)
  • Government Body: City of Johnston
  • Non-governmental Organization: Iowa Rivers Revival

Built Environment (presented by Center on Sustainable Communities)

  • Commercial: World Food Prize Foundation
  • Residential: Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity

The winners will be honored at the Environmental Impact Awards luncheon from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, at the Raccoon River Park Nature Lodge in West Des Moines. Two of the organizations will receive special recognition for excellence in water management and energy efficiency at the luncheon. These excellence awards are provided by Des Moines Water Works and MidAmerican Energy, respectively.

Tickets for the luncheon are $25 per person.
