DSM USA Music Mix Volume II Artists Announced

March 2, 2015

The Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Greater Des Moines Music Coalition are excited to announce the lineup of artists for the DSM USA Music Mix Volume II, a collection of locally produced music compiled into a free, downloadable format available at DSMpartnership.com/musicmix.

The DSM USA Music Mix Volume II includes the following artists:

  • Bonne Finken
  • Candymakers
  • Captains of the Flowered Porch
  • Christopher the Conquered
  • Freestyle' Diamontae
  • Gloom Balloon
  • The High Crest
  • Homecoming Parade
  • The Host Country
  • James Biehn
  • Max Wellman
  • The Maytags
  • Monday Mourners
  • The Nadas
  • William J Locker

The selection process for the Mix was based on three criteria: 1) songwriting — the quality of original musical and lyrical compositions, 2) musicianship — execution appropriate to the material, and 3) appropriateness for compilation — lyric content, production quality, and artist activity with the community. The top 25 songs with the highest score were then in the running to appear on the Mix. The public was invited to vote for their three favorite songs that best represent the Greater Des Moines (DSM) music scene. The songs with the most votes are featured on the Mix.  Nearly 50 bands submitted songs and 2,000 votes were collected.

“We are excited to bring back the DSM USA Music Mix for a second year as it is an excellent way to showcase arts and culture, particularly the music scene in Greater Des Moines,” said Mary Bontrager, Executive Vice President of Workforce/Education for the Partnership. “When recruiting talent we have found the music culture of a community is important to many people, whether it is how they make a living or how they live their passion.”

The DSM USA Music Mix will be promoted this month at SXSW, the annual film, interactive, and music festival/conference in Austin, Texas. The Partnership will also use the Mix as a promotional tool at other conference outlets, at future career fairs and out-of-state workforce recruitment events.

The Partnership and Greater Des Moines Music Coalition would like to thank all of the participants for their time and submissions to the contest. The free music is available at DSMpartnership.com/musicmix.
