Brenton Skating Plaza Canopy Celebrated

June 26, 2014

The Principal Financial Group along with the Greater Des Moines community celebrated the official unveiling of the canopy at Brenton Skating Plaza this week.  Business and community leaders participated in a ribbon cutting formally introducing the enhanced event venue to the community.  A reception honoring retired Principal CEO and former Partnership Chair Barry Griswell for his support of the development of The Principal Riverwalk followed the ribbon cutting.

During the summer months, Brenton Skating Plaza now features a one of a kind canopy, affording breathtaking cityscape and river views while still providing event space with protection from the elements.  The addition of the canopy to the skating plaza creates an ideal location for corporate and private events, parties and receptions.  Conveniently located along The Principal Riverwalk in the heart of Downtown Des Moines, Brenton Skating Plaza is easily accessible along the waterfront and is just blocks from the city’s many downtown attractions.  Operation Downtown is managing the event space. Contact Robbin McClelland at (515) 284-1000 or visit brentonplaza.com for more information about reserving the plaza.

Gifted by the Brenton Foundation, the skating plaza is the first of its kind in Iowa and is the only outdoor rink in Greater Des Moines. Brenton Skating Plaza is funded by Operation Downtown, City of Des Moines Park and Recreation Department and the Riverfront Development Authority.
