Raising Capital and Patents, Intellectual Property

Trademark, Copyright and Patent Considerations

A common question I hear concerns patents and other intellectual property such as trademarks. Entrepreneurs are often not sure if they should go through the process of obtaining a patent, copyright or trademark. There are many things to consider in making these decisions.

The Intellectual Property (IP) Effect

One area that is often overlooked is the effect IP has on raising capital. On Thursday, March 28, the Plains Angels will hold their monthly due diligence training session focused on intellectual property and raising capital. How does IP affect raising capital and valuation for startup companies? Does the startup need to have a patent or a trademark? What should angel investors know when it comes to patents both here and in other countries? The session will feature speakers from the BrownWinick Law Firm.

These sessions are not restricted to Plains Angels members or accredited investors. All people interested in business are encouraged to attend as well as entrepreneurs, so they might better understand and prepare for raising funds.
