Event Information

Description

Gangsters. Jazzy speakeasies. Bathtubs full of bootleg gin. The era of Prohibition has fueled countless novels and Hollywood movies. But the real story of that turbulent time, from 1920 through 1933, is even more interesting. Learn all about it during our next "History on the Rocks" event, featuring Central College historian Lori Witt, who teaches a semester-long course about Prohibition and will highlight the history of brewing in Iowa. She'll be joined by Teresa Albert of Iowa's oldest microbrewery, Millstream Brewing Co., which has operated in the Amana Colonies since 1884. While you're here, be sure to tour the traveling exhibition "Spirited: Prohibition in America," on display Sept. 1 through Oct. 20.
