Event Information

Featuring nearly 300 vendors from 50 Iowa counties, the Downtown Farmers’ Market in Historic Court District in Downtown Des Moines (DSM) offers scores of tasty treats each summer on Saturdays. Visitors can enjoy locally grown produce, farm fresh eggs, baked goods and Iowa-raised meat, including beef, pork, chicken, goat, rabbit, lamb and tilapia! The adventure doesn’t stop there either. Guests can enjoy local artists, live music and entertainment, ready-to-eat foods, special programming and learning opportunities all in the course of a Saturday morning. Whether it’s seasonal flowers, locally produced wine or a new culinary adventure, there’s always something to experience at the Downtown Farmers’ Market.

This event is free and open to the public.

Entertainers

Enjoy live music from local performers while you shop. This week, hear these performers:

  • Ace Jones: Ace Jones is a singer-songwriter from Marion. He plays acoustic, folk, rock, pop and easy listening music. He sings a variety of original songs and covers, self-accompanied by his guitar.
  • Beaver Creek Jazz Ensemble: Beaver Creek Jazz Ensemble is a group of volunteer musicians who play a mix of big band, swing, light jazz dance music and a few rock and roll numbers. The group consists of a director, five saxophones, two trombones, three trumpets, electric guitar, electric bass guitar, electric piano and drums.
  • Creations With A Twist: Daniel Poe from Creations With A Twist has been in business for nine years and has provided amazing balloon art at a wide variety of events. People of all ages enjoy watching him twist colorful balloons into recognizable characters, incredible wearables and comical sculptures!
  • Don Brown / Brownian Motion: Don C. Brown of DSM is a flutist and saxophonist who gained his initial musical experience from his parents who were both saxophonists. Brown plays several genres of music including jazz, Latin jazz, American popular standards, rhythm & blues, blues and gospel.
  • Heartland Mini-Railroad Express: Kids are invited to come take a ride on the Mini Railroad! Located on 2nd Street, South of Court Ave. the Heartland Mini Railroad provides young visitors a fun and unique experience while shopping The Market.
  • Hudson Road: Hudson Road is a band consisting of a female vocalist accompanied by piano or guitar. Hudson Road covers multiple genres ranging from country and pop to classic rock.
  • Morgan Wolfe: Morgan Wolfe is a 16-year-old singer from Johnston, Iowa. She plays piano, guitar and flute, and her performances range from pop to R&B to jazz as she expresses herself through her love for music.
  • Samantha White: With over a decade of experience, Samantha White is a solo violinist with a large repertoire of bluegrass, Celtic and folk songs.
  • Sinners and Saints: Sinners and Saints brings outstanding vocals and percussion, giving a facelift to old folk songs and making them new again. Their set list includes an eclectic blend of hits from Ray Charles, Bonnie Raitt, Neil Young, John Prine, Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin and many others. They dare you not to sing along!

Local charitable organizations — welcomed as Saturday Salutes at The Market — promote learning opportunities, Downtown events and community resources each Saturday.   • Iowa Atheists and Freethinkers: Iowa Atheists and Freethinkers is a community of nonreligious people carrying out social, charitable, educational and civic activities. Stop by the booth to see a demonstration of the solar system and learn more about the science behind this community.
  • Iowa Food & Family Project: The Iowa Food & Family Project is dedicated to feeding consumers' curiosity in today's farms and food system by connecting them with the people who grow/raise, prepare and serve their high-quality, safe food. Giveaways will be distributed in exchange for opting into the monthly "Fresh Pickings" e-newsletter and/or by participating in a prize wheel game.
