Brenton Skating Plaza FAQ

The Plaza's season will be Nov. 20, 2020 to Jan. 3, 2021.

To help everyone stay safe while enjoying Brenton Skating Plaza, visitors should wash their hands or use hand sanitizer frequently, social distance when possible, wear a face covering and stay home if they are sick. Anyone visiting the facility does so at their own risk.

All skaters, spectators and staff must follow all CDC and public health guidance for social distancing.

Due to COVID-19, the following changes have been implemented:

  • Daily 1.5 hour sessions.
  • Capacity will be limited to 99 skaters per session.
  • Two spectators allowed per skater.
  • We highly encourage skaters to pre-register online. We will have a few walk-up slots available.
  • Due to COVID-19, the blue building will be restricted to employees only.
  • Guests will check in on the east side of the large blue building facing Robert D. Ray Drive.
  • Guests will also be able to check out skates at the same location.
  • Guests will be able to purchase shoe check online. Shoes will be kept behind the counter.
  • A queue line will be used to set up for next session of skaters. Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes before your session.
  • Skate return will be located on the north side of the blue building.
  • Limited concessions will be available.
  • Face coverings must be worn while at the Brenton Skating Plaza except for children under the age of 2 years old.
  • All patrons must practice safe social distancing protocols by keeping 6 feet away from those not in their immediate household. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced.
  • The Plaza will be cleaned in between sessions and all skates will be sanitized.
  • Please leave promptly when your skating session ends to allow for cleaning and preparation for the next session.
  • ALL SALES ARE FINAL.

  • 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

  • 3:30 – 5 p.m.

  • 9:30 – 11 p.m.

Sunday

  • 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
  • 1:30 – 3 p.m.
  • 3:30 – 5 p.m.
  • 5:30 – 7 p.m.

Additional weekday skating sessions will be available during school holiday breaks.

Are you open on holidays?

We are open Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Please check for up-to-date hours on our Ice Skating page. During school holiday breaks, additional skating sessions will be available.

1.5 hour skating sessions

What is the cost?

  • Adult: $9 plus a $1 service fee per admission = $10
  • Child (6 – 12 years old)/Military/Senior 62+: $5.50 plus a $1 service per admission = $6.50

Can I rent skates?

Yes, both hockey and figure skates from toddler size 8 to adult size 15 are available.

What is the cost to rent skates?

It is $5 for skate rental. You may bring your own skates.

Do you sharpen skates?

Yes, the fee is $5. If we are busy, you might have to leave your skates and pick them up later.

Do you have lockers?

No, we do not have lockers. We offer a shoe check for $1 (for shoes only) and have an outside rack available at no charge for shoes/boots. The Plaza is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Can I purchase concessions?

Yes, this season due to COVID-19, we will have limited concessions. Cocoa, bottled water, Gatorade and packaged snacks will be available for purchase. Food and beverages will not be allowed to be carried in except for water bottles in plastic containers only (absolutely no glass).

Where are the restrooms?

Heated restrooms are located west of the rink. Lines for restrooms are discouraged. If there must be a line, 6-foot spacing requirements shall always be in effect. Restroom areas will be marked with 6 feet distance measurements.

Do you offer skating lessons?

We will not be offering lessons this season.

Do you offer a broomball league?

We will not be offering a broomball league this season.

Do you offer a birthday party package?

We will not be offering a birthday package this season. Please tell the staff if you are celebrating a birthday, and we will announce your name and play the birthday song.

Can I bring a group skating? 

In light of COVID, there are no group rate discounts at this time.

What should I bring?

Every skater needs to wear socks. Also, do not forget your gloves.

Do you sell socks?

We sell socks, mittens and beanie hats.

Do I have to pay if I'm not skating?

No, only people skating need to pay. Please wear a face covering.

Is the rink open if it snows?

We make every attempt to have the rink open everyday. In the case of a snowstorm, we may have a delayed open or need to close the rink if conditions are unsafe. Please check our website or call (515) 284-1000.

COVID-19

Any person who is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 will be prohibited from entering the facility. Polk County Public Health will be contacted if a positive case of COVID-19 is reported and provide guidance on additional steps if needed in regard to individual or team care.
